Biofeedback

    People who live with chronic pain or stress experience daily frustration, decreased productivity and strain on interpersonal relationships. Biofeedback is a very helpful tool that can relieve stress and pain. Practiced both in the treatment session and at home, it is a highly effective self care approach. . Biofeedback has earned its way into the medical field over the last 25 years. The prefix "bio" comes from a Greek word pertaining to a physiological process. "Feedback" means a return of information. The term biofeedback refers to a return of information regarding specific physiological processes.
     Essentially, it involves a computer that enables you to view information about your body. The goal is to monitor and learn to change body functions such as heart rate, muscle tension, temperature, breathing activity, and sweat gland activity. Research has shown that biofeedback is effective in treating many conditions especially those involving tension and pain. The following is a partial list of conditions in which biofeedback is beneficial:

·        Anxiety, Panic Disorders, and General Relaxation

 If you would like to use biofeedback for a medical condition, a referral from your physician is required. Expect six to ten sessions for best results. From the beginning of treatment, you will be educated to understand the physiology associated with your condition, you will receive instructional materials and will be given prescribed techniques to practice. You do not need to have a medical condition to benefit from biofeedback.
